Okay, so your preparing the perfect 4th of July barbecue. While your in your yard you see mosquitos, ants, and spiders. No one wants all of their guests being bit up by mosquitos, or even worse ants crawling all over the punch bowl and chips. Here at Northeastern Exterminating we realize that sometimes its short notice to hire a pest control professional. We’ve complied a few tips for the common homeowner to keep the pests away, just for a few days. In the long run you will always need a professional pest management program.
- Mosquitos are one of the most nuisance pests at barbecues. It is an unpleasant experience when your company comes to visit and have to go inside because of the large mosquito population. There are a few things you can do about mosquitos. First off make sure you purchase a product containing DEET to keep the mosquitos off your skin. Please make sure its safe for children and adults alike. Another tip is to relocated all of your in door fans and put them outside. Face the fans towards where the guests are sitting. This will interfere with their flying pattern and the ability to detect anything that may attract them to us. This fan method works quite well in big backyards although for a bigger space you may need a giant fan.
- Ants are a real nuisance , especially when they are crawling all over your food. It can be unsightly to the guests, and they can lose their appetite. A obvious tip is to cover all food in a proper locking container. Ants have an incredible sense of their surroundings and they will alert all of their friends if they know they were uninvited to a party!
- Flies can spread many different kinds of disease and bacteria. Many hardware stores sell fly lights that you can use for these parties. They may not eliminate 100% of the fly population, but it will decrease the chance of flies on your wonderful food. Also, we would suggest as with the ants, try to keep food covered as much as possible.
- Ticks are a concern if your having a party in an area with tall grass or weeds. Not very common in brooklyn, or any other of the borrows there are still ticks around. If you have children and think they will play in the tall grass try to bring a pair of long pants. It may sound silly in the summer to wear long pants, but it can save problems in the long run.
